Masterclasses and Workshops

for Voice Teachers and Singers!

Saturday - 2.  March  2024 - Public Day

Topics on Saturday

What is Modern Vocal Training? - Masterclass

10.00 – 11.30 h

This 90-minute-long masterclass is for existing non-MVT singing teachers and people interested in becoming singing teachers within the MVT organisation. During this interactive masterclass, Ian will be explaining the principles behind the MVT System of Education including efficient and accurate Vocal Diagnosis. What are we hearing? How do we collect the information that we require and how to categorise what it is that we are hearing during the Diagnosis Protocol.

Modern Vocal Training - Beyond Diagnosis

11.45 – 13.15 h

In this 90-minute-long masterclass, Ian will be taking volunteers through the MVT Diagnostic Protocol and demonstrating how we move beyond diagnosis and into treatment. How do we take what issues/imbalances we’ve heard in the voice and move this information into a transformative lesson allowing the singer to feel a real difference in their voice? This class will require volunteers from within the audience.

Q & A Time

13.15 – 14.00 h

An opportunity for people to ask any questions they may have about the MVT Level 1 program or MVT in general.

Lunch 14.00 - 15.00 h

Time to rest ;-)

Vocalises - Public Masterclass

15.00 – 17.00 h

This 120-minute-long class is open to members of the public and MVT Teachers alike and is an introduction to the MVT Philosophy and System of Education using volunteer voices from the attendees. Ian will work with a maximum of 4 volunteers from within the audience demonstrating the effectiveness of the MVT System of Education.

Application to Song - Public Masterclass

17.15 – 18.15 h

This class is open to members of the public and MVT Teachers alike and using a maximum of 6 volunteer voices from the attendees Ian will demonstrate the practical application of the MVT System of Education when it comes to singing songs.

Sunday - 3.  March - 2024

Topics on Sunday

Observation Class - MVT Teachers Only

10.00 – 11.30 h

In this class, teachers will have the opportunity to watch Ian teach a lesson to two of the teachers from within the group. Ian will take the teacher through a diagnosis, work on any areas of the voice that need attention with vocalises and then work on a song. This is to allow the teachers to observe and take notes on the lesson flow and structure, the vocalises used and communication. This is an UNINTERRUPTED CLASS meaning that throughout the duration, the teachers will be observing the work.

Participation Class - MVT Teachers Only

11.45 – 13.15 h

Similar to the first class, teachers will have the opportunity to watch Ian teach a lesson to two of the teachers from within the group. Ian will take the teacher through a diagnosis, work on any areas of the voice that need attention with vocalises and then work on a song. This is to allow the teachers to observe and take notes on the lesson flow and structure, the vocalises used and communication. This is an INTERRUPTED CLASS meaning that throughout the duration, the teachers will be invited to interrupt the session with any questions that they may have.

Lunch 13.15 - 14.15 h

Time to rest ;-)

Teaching Circle - MVT Teachers Only

14.15 – 16.15 h

This 2-hour-long class is an interactive participation between the teachers and Ian, and is based solely on effective diagnosis and lesson planning, again using teachers from within the group as "the singer". The teachers will take turns playing the piano for each "lesson". The rest of the teachers have to write down what they are hearing and what exercises they would use to try and correct any imbalances that they are hearing. The teachers, with the help of Ian, will guide the teacher on the piano to direct the singer who is having the lesson.

Working with the Advanced Singer - MVT Teachers Only

16.30 – 18.30 h

What do we do when an Advanced Singer comes for a lesson? Often this can be a cause of anxiety for the less experienced teacher. This class is an opportunity for the teachers to observe Ian working with Advanced Singers on exercises and songs.

Monday - 4. March 2024

9.00 – 21.00 h
One-to-one voice lessons with Ian Davidson

These lessons will be available for MVT Teachers to observe (with the singer’s permission). We encourage all of our teachers to observe as many lessons as they can as part of their own continuing education. Please note that these lessons will be non-interactive and purely observational.
